Ma and Pa Kettle at Home Reviews

One of Kilbride and Main's 15 offspring, Halsey, is a finalist in an essay competition that could win him a scholarship to an agricultural college. The judges, Mowbray and Elliott, decide to spend the weekend at the homes of the two finalists in order to determine who will be the winner. Upon hearing the news, Kilbride flies into a panic and attempts to spruce up his tumbledown farm so that the judges will look more favorably on Halsey. The improvements, of course, are merely cosmetic, and when a vicious rain kicks up during the judges' stay and washes off Kilbride's work, it appears that the scholarship is washed away as well. Fortunately the judges are more impressed with the quality of Halsey's solid family life than with the farm, and they grant him the scholarship. Filled with the usual collection of rustic characters, this "Ma and Pa Kettle" outing is another entertaining affair.
