This tailor-made film was especially for Warner Bros.' new discovery, 5-year-old Jason, who was to be the studio's answer to Shirley Temple. Jason wasn't bad: she could sing, dance, and charm her way into anyone's heart. But her average looks and sometimes unintelligible South African accent were hardly enough to sink the Good Ship Lollipop. Here she plays a gangster's daughter who is taken charge of by a couple of street people shortly before her father is killed. She goes through the typical "cute kid in the underworld" adventures which, in spite of the cliched plot, are well scripted. Armstrong warbles "My Kid's a Crooner." Among Jason's obligatory numbers were "I'm a Little Big Shot Now" and "Rolling in the Money" (Mort Dixon, Allie Wrubel). The kids should enjoy it. Director Curtiz and screenwriter Epstein later collaborated again for CASABLANCA.
