Les Amants du Tage Reviews

The familiar tale of a widower who meets a woman whose husband has recently died is spiced up a bit by adding murder to the mix. The result is a moody depiction of individuals driven by desperation. Gelin plays a man who killed his wife when, upon returning home from war, he discovered she was unfaithful. Now unable to trust women, Gelin travels to Lisbon, where he falls in love with Arnoul, whose husband has recently died. What he is unaware of is that Arnoul caused the death of her aristocratic British spouse, and is under intense investigation by Howard, who uses the unstable condition of Gelin to trap her. But before this happens, it becomes obvious that affair between Gelin and Arnoul is doomed from the start. (In French.)
