In an attempt to keep Mary I of England off the throne, minister John Dudley has the King's dying son declare Lady Jane Grey his heir and marries her to his own son.

Talented Helena Bonham Carter stars in this look at the life of Lady Jane Grey, the 15-year-old Queen of England whose reign lasted a scant nine days. Despite Trevor Nunn's direction, this gorgeously photographed travesty of history doesn't omit a single cliche of the costume genre and feels even longer than its 142-minute running time. Fans of RSC-style scenery-chewing will not, however, be disappointed.
