Kid Nightingale Reviews

Throw a few punches, sing a few songs, and next thing you know you're the world heavyweight champion, or at least that's what shady fight promoters have in mind when they send opera-singing waiter Steve Nelson (John Payne) into one fixed fight after another, confident that his post-knockout warbling will attract female fans. It's up to Steve's girl friend (Jane Wyman) to discover that the vocal coach the fighter has demanded is actually a wrestler (Harry Burns, who also plays a real voice teacher) and to get Steve back on the right track musically. For those willing to accept its goofy premise, there should be plenty of laughs in KID NIGHTINGALE, and the direction, script, and Payne's singing are all more than passable.
