Brighton police inspector Warner and his assistant Lewis investigate a burglary in which the thieves get away with property leases from a real estate office. The detectives learn of the theft from the realtor's assistant and, in the course of their investigation, discover the body of a disfigured woman who they mistakenly believe was an old spinster. Their trail of clues leads them back to the real estate office, where, with the help of the very much alive spinster, Donlan, they discover that the assistant is the culprit.
