It's Not Just Our Skin plunges into the Bosch-Siemens labor crisis of May 2005, when an estimated 600 workers at the Berlin-based Siemens household appliance factory faced the prospect of being shuttled to a new location and having their salaries sliced in half. The corporation viewed the factory itself as expendable, asserting none too subtly that its technology now qualified as out-of-date, and that it cost the corporation an unreasonable amount relative to the profits it earned. The work-staff found itself caught between a proverbial rock and a hard place - trapped between a union whose demands it found unreasonable, and media outlets insistent on branding the workers as utopian dreamers. With this film, documentarist Holger Wayman relays the tale from the inside out, and documents the professional and personal toll exacted from each of those involved.
