Identity Unknown Reviews

An interesting treatment of the return from WW II of a soldier suffering from amnesia. Arlen, cast as the unknown, adopts the tag Johnny March, and march is what he does. To find his real identity, he travels across America visiting a variety of people--a truck driver from Connecticut, an architect in West Virginia, a Chicago mobster, and an Iowa farm couple. Each tells about their personal losses in the war, their feelings about why the war was fought, and their vision of how Americans will live after the war's end. Arlen finds himself with the help of his new girl friend Walker. Arlen's character was a timely symbol for the American soldier returning home, embodying all the fears and joy that this country lived through. A uniquely personal film from director Walter Colmes.
