I Even Met Happy Gypsies Reviews

A Yugoslavian film starring Fehmiu as a frustrated gypsy merchant who feels pressured and constrained by his family life. One day he meets a beautiful young girl, Jovanovic, who has been sold into a marriage with a 12-year-old boy by her evil stepfather, Zivojinovic. The girl escapes her unwanted situation and is later found by Fehmiu, who takes her home with him. Eventually she finds her way back into the vile clutches of Zivojinovic, and in a rage Fehmiu kills the latter and disappears. Star Fehmiu made a sufficient impression to be pursued and groomed for Hollywood, appearing as the handsome lead in a number of forgettable English-language features. Nominated by the Academy for Best Foreign Film, it lost to CLOSELY WATCHED TRAINS.
