Yuppie Jack White (Bruce Greenwood) and his beautiful but barren wife Anne (Daryl Hannah) finally succeed in conceiving a baby, thanks to a fertility specialist. Unbeknownst to the Whites, however, their doctor's lab assistant Frank (Vincent Gallo) has his own nefarious plans for their unborn child. Badgered by his childless, demented companion Helen (Jennifer Tilly), Frank kidnaps Anne with the intention of keeping the baby after she gives birth. As the trail of evidence turns cold, Jack gets the runaround from the cops. Can he locate Anne before Frank performs an illegal Cesarean and institutes instant adoption? Already suspecting Frank of having sexual designs on Anne, Helen freaks out when he attempts an amniocentesis on their reluctant houseguest and kills him, but sticks to the baby appropriation scheme. Can Jack reach Anne before she, too, becomes expendable? Overplaying even the pauses between her line readings, Tilly sets the silly tone for this crude damsel-in-distress shlock. Unlike such classics of the genre as GASLIGHT or MIDNIGHT LACE, this one's just an excuse to indulge in sadomasochistic parlor games, battering its comely leading lady, all the better for her to pay back her tormentors in spades. Ripping off a few headline horror stories, this parental freak show emerges as the artistic equivalent of a breach birth.
