In this comedy, a playwright, Harold Montague (Herbert Heyes) goes to the Kentucky mountains so that he can get "local color" for a project on which he is working. He encounters quite a bit of color, including a charming mountain girl (May Allison), and a bunch of moonshiners. After experiencing several adventures, getting tangled up with the moonshiners, and falling in love with the girl, he goes back home to discover that all those he encountered were actors, sent to help him develop his story. The girl is actually the star of the play and the head of the moonshiners is the play's villain.
