Character study about a department-store magnate who neglects his family, which includes an adulterous wife, a spoiled daughter and an alcoholic son. Based on a Fannie Hurst novel.
Davies becomes extremely wealthy because of her chain of five-and-dime stores, and is chased after by Howard. She rejects him, but when he marries, Davies wrecks the marriage. Sumptuous production lacks a solid story, but Howard is a standout.
