Final Stab Reviews

Clearly designed to cash in on the popularity of the self-referential SCREAM movies, longtime exploitation director David DeCoteau's neo-stalk-and-slash picture tweaks the formula by dispatching handsome, half-dressed young men in a variety of gory ways. Wealthy, spiteful Kristin (Erinn Carter) wants to opening a murder-mystery themed bed and breakfast and decides to try out the fake scares by throwing a Halloween birthday party for her sister, Angela (Melissa Renee Martin), and assorted friends, including Angela's unbalanced boyfriend, Charlie (Jamie Gannon). Everybody's in on the joke except Angela, Charlie and the real masked killer who starts picking off the guests one by one. Matthew Jason Wash's screenplay is derivative, but DeCoteau continues to blaze the path he started on in THE BROTHERHOOD (2000), adding none-too-subtle homoerotic elements to standard-issue horror narratives.
