Dementia Reviews

Catatonic and confined to a mental institution following a nervous breakdown, Katherine (Patricia Bursel) only responds to the ministrations of Luisa (Marisol Padilla Sanchez), a nurse. When Katherine inherits a country house, her psychiatrist deems her well enough for release, as long as she remains in Luisa's care. Although abused mentally and physically by her jealous spouse Sonny (Matt Schulze), masochistic Luisa frets about the faraway assignment, until he surprises her by talking Katherine's uncle into giving him a handyman position. Immediately establishing a flirtatious friendship with Katherine, devious Sonny tells Luisa he intends to become indispensable to the troubled heiress. When Katherine's old flame Martin (Jesus Nebot) appears on the scene, Sonny tampers with his brakes and — no more Martin. By increasing the dosage of Katherine's medication, he plans to keep her a virtual prisoner and exploit her fortune. Despite Sonny's undeniable sado-sexual appeal, Luisa finally confesses to Katherine and the two women join forces against him. Failing to generate the slightest suspense, this low-budget chiller is so inconsequential it appears to have been improvised on the spot. Elongated by ungodly pauses between line deliveries, the screenplay does double duty as a soap opera, as the female leads kvetch about man trouble. Making this sexploitation version of KIND LADY work requires sexual sparks between Sonny and both females, but the erotic heat is more schematic than palpable
