Decline and Fall...of a Birdwatcher Reviews

Labored satire of British society in which Phillips, a naive Oxford student, is subjected to every sort of bizarre humiliation that can be packed into a feature film. Yet at the end of the film, he remains amazed at the arrogance of the upper class. Phillips is hired by the wealthy Page to tutor her unruly son. Soon Phillips falls in love with Page, which leads him on a twisted trail to Tangier and eventually to jail. After marrying a powerful government official, Page is able to get Phillips released from prison and to provide him with a new identity and life. This is definitely a hit-and-miss comedy.
