Overlong, overblown adaptation of E.L. Doctorow's fictionalized account of the famous case against the Rosenbergs (who were accused of passing atomic secrets to the Russians and executed). Timothy Hutton, as Daniel, the son of the "Isaacsons" (Rosenbergs), spends the majority of the film musing over whether or not his parents were guilty. These scenes are intercut with sepia-toned flashbacks to his childhood that detail his parents' trial and execution. Although the story provides opportunities to explore profound social and human issues, the film instead meanders along at a snail's pace, with labored performances that create little compassion for or understanding of the characters.
