Romero, a detective posing as a jewel thief, sails from Europe to New York in the company of a band of jewel thieves who are after a famous diamond. Romero is sent on the voyage by the insurance company to stop the crooks from stealing the diamond, which is as large as a doorknob. He falls in love with the woman in the gang, Brooks, making it necessary for him to clear her when the gang is captured. The film's triteness shows when Brooks, as much a jewel thief as the others, decides to go straight, and the court gives her a suspended sentence, putting her on parole, with orders to report to Romero as her parole officer.
