Wayne and Ralston are a young couple setting out into the Dakota territory to find their fortune. They come across a gang of crooks who are buying up land from unsuspecting farmers who don't know that the land is worth three times as much because a railroad is to be built on it. When the crooks try to swindle Wayne, they get more trouble than they bargained for. DAKOTA was almost never made because Wayne refused to work with Ralston, the wife of Republic's owner Herbert J. Yates. He finally relented, but this may explain his below-average performance in this picture.
