Captain Kidd Reviews

Laughton plays the infamous pirate captain in this rather dull swashbuckler. The story takes place on the high seas in the late 1700s and chronicles the adventures of the title pirate as he plunders ships from England to India. The King of England foolishly enlists Laughton and his men to safeguard passage of several treasury ships belonging to the crown. Laughton, of course, double-crosses the King and takes the loot for himself. The angry King sends Scott to bring the pirate to face the gallows. Good supporting cast, including Carradine, Roland, Qualen, and Leonard as Laughton's lackeys, and decent production values can't punch up this mundane script.
