Believe in Me Reviews

Director Hagmann had an altogether too brief career in TV and films (THE STRAWBERRY STATEMENT) before returning to the world of commercials in which he achieved fame for such campaigns as the Chaplin series for IBM. His firm hand is evident in BELIEVE IN ME, the hard-hitting story of a young intern, Sarrazin, an addict who entices his lover, Bisset, to join him in the pleasures of drugs. He's high on speed most of the time. She joins him, almost inadvertently, and their lives begin a downward spiral. Painful to watch at times, it made no concession to commercialism and consequently suffered at the box office. Excellent work all around from creative team and from the supporting cast, particularly Garfield and Cypher, as Bisset's physician-brother who tries to get them off amphetamines.
