Adventures of Don Juan Reviews

The last of the big-budget swashbucklers for an increasingly dissipated star and an increasingly disappointed studio, DON JUAN offers Flynn as the notorious lover and swordsman of the title: amorous, capricious and somewhat world-weary. The film features the predictable expert duels in resplendent settings, when Flynn is not enjoying the flighty advances of a bevy of luscious contract beauties. Viveca Lindfors is an arresting choice for the Queen of Spain, but her considerable talents are not challenged by routine Hollywood treatment. The film did respectable box office business, but it is evident to the viewer that Flynn is growing a little long in the tooth for leading man roles. Nevertheless, DON JUAN is enjoyable formula fluff and a fitting swan song to Flynn's years as a bankable star.
