Season 3 of the adaptation of Charlaine Harris' Southern vampire novels begins with another body in Merlotte's parking lot, which sends Tara (Rutina Wesley) down an even darker path than before and Andy (Chris Bauer) covering for the deadeye Jason (Ryan Kwanten). All the carnage outside his restaurant must be getting to Sam (Sam Trammell), who takes off to find out more about his past, and winds up taking in his kid brother, Tommy (Marshall Allman). Meanwhile, Sookie (Anna Paquin) gets a werewolf bodyguard named Alcide (Joe Manganiello) in her search for Bill (Stephen Moyer), who's been summoned to the court of Russell Edgington (Denis O'Hare), the eccentric vampire king of Mississippi; Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) finds an unlikely suitor in Hoyt (Jim Parrack); and Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) discovers he has more in common with his mother's nurse, Jesus (Kevin Alejandro), than just a mutual attraction.
