The drama based on Charlaine Harris' vampire novels is back for a second season, which begins with the discovery of a body at Merlotte's that has the citizens of Bon Temps, La., worried about another murderer on the loose. The locals are charmed, however, by newcomer Maryann (Michelle Forbes), whose mysterious aura has an intoxicating effect on her growing legion of followers, especially Tara (Rutina Wesley), who is also drawn to another stranger and fellow lost soul nicknamed Eggs (Mehcad Brooks). Meanwhile, Sookie (Anna Paquin) is irked by the presence of Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), the teen protégé of Bill (Stephen Moyer); Jason (Ryan Kwanten) is recruited by the antivampire group Fellowship of the Sun, led by the charismatic Rev. Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian) and his wife, Sarah (Anna Camp); and Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) searches for his maker, Godric (Allan Hyde), a 2000-year-old sheriff who's gone missing in Dallas.
