Season 12 finds Homer achieving the unthinkable: He suddenly becomes an intelligent man in "HOMR" after a crayon he lodged into his brain in childhood is removed. Sadly, he finds that his newfound smarts alienate him from most of his friends and family, although they do allow him to connect with Lisa. Elsewhere, Krusty the Clown learns he has a daughter (voice of Drew Barrymore) and Bart and his classmates form a boy band whose songs contain subliminal messages to join the Navy. The season concludes with the anthology episode "Simpsons Tall Tales," which reimagines the stories of Paul Bunyan, Johnny Appleseed and Tom Sawyer to star the Simpsons family.
