It was only a matter of time. Media watchdog group Parents Television Council is hot on the Louboutin heels of the CW's "OMFG" marketing campaign for Gossip Girl, saying it's just too sultry. The print and online campaign has been heating up for the past few weeks (you can take a peek here!).The Council takes issue in particular, with what they say is a "sexually suggestive photo showing a teenage boy kissing a girl's cleavage." In a statement, PTC said it "deplores the CW's deliberate use of profanity and sexual imagery to exploit and further corrupt young viewers." What Emily in Marketing Is Watching
As the writers' strike drags on, I seem to find no shortage of old and current shows to catch up on. If you really stop and think about it, there are hundreds of quality television series that have been produced over the years, and I don't care how much TV you watch, no one has time to catch them all! To start with, I have been mixing some oldies with some newbies and have also revisiting some of my personal old faves. My DVR is getting a workout and I am finally starting to utilize the video functionality of my iPod. Isn't technology great? Heroes, Office Props Make for Good Bid-ness
NBC Universal Video, Music & Product Development and Delivery Agent (or as I like to call the division, "NUVMPDDA") on Monday will launch an auction of props, wardrobe items and other collectibles from Peacock programs. Among the items going up for bid are three original Heroes paintings by artist Tim Sale, Office boss Michael Scott's Timex watch, Tim Riggins' Friday Night Lights jersey and a Josh Duhamel-autographed jacket (as seen on Las Vegas by those not forever distracted by Vanessa). Ratings: Moonlight Can't Come Close to Home
Numbers was Friday night's top-rated program with 9.16 million total viewers, a 20 percent plunge from its year-ago season premiere. In a close second was Las Vegas, whose two-hour opener averaged 9.12 mil (just a Tom Selleck mustache hair off last year's). Like Numbers, Ghost Whisperer (8.65 mil) was down — 14 percent — from last fall's premiere. CBS' new 9 o'clock Friday series, Moonlight, was sampled by 8.63 mil, demonstrating solid retention out of J.Love yet coming up well short of underappreciated time-slot predecessor Close to Home's most recent opener (in both total viewers and key demos). Can't blame it on a lack of online advertising.Fox's K-Ville "encore" was watched by 2.6 mil, better than the numbers Nashville was putting up.Saturday's "controversial" Heroes rebroadcast drew about 3.6 mil, I hear, but the actual tally of unique, nonduplicated viewers (to be added to last Monday's audience) isn't expected until Tuesday.

As buzzed about a month ago, NBC has signed Emmy winner Tom Selleck (Magnum, P.I.) to join the cast of NBC's Las Vegas this fall, playing "a charismatic, self-made billionaire who is surrounded by an air of mystery when he becomes the new owner of the Montecito Resort & Casino."In making the announcement, NBC also revealed that — as some form of baton-passing, I presume — James Caan will reprise his role of Ed Deline in the Season 5 premiere. It was announced earlier this year that Caan would be leaving Las Vegas after its fourth-season finale, but just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in. Las Vegas creator Gary Scott Thompson says the decision to bid adieu to both James Caan and Nikki Cox came so last-minute that Friday's season-ender — which boasts an explosion and a shooting, to name but two big events, and was purposely designed to coerce NBC into greenlighting a fifth season — not only might not pave the way for Ed's and Mary's exits, but actually has the writers in a bit of a pickle. "The season finale had already been written," Thompson tells TVGuide.com, "so it's going to be challenging to get us out of the situation I put us in." Question: Any idea what is happening with Crossing Jordan?Answer: No clue. NBC pulled it off its Friday sked and is only saying it could return as early as January. As a small consolation, the Nov. 17 episode of Las Vegas will feature another crossover from Jordan and Woody. And here's another mini-scooplet: Jordan is casting a new recurring role. The character is described as a sexy, funny, and slightly cocky cop in his mid-twenties to early thirties. Is it just me, or does that role have my name written all over it?

Las Vegas creator Gary Scott Thompson has two new projects in development for fall '07: CBS' Protect and Serve, about L.A. street cops, and an NBC drama about a policeman who, after losing his family in the World Trade Center attacks, follows his ex-wife to Hawaii....
