Ratings: NCIS Eyes New High, Eli Stone Keeps the Faith
Tuesday's ratings tally: 8 pm/ET NCIS continued its streak as the night's most-watched program, delivering 17.86 million total viewers — a 14 percent week-to-week surge and quite possibly its biggest audience of the season-to-date; we'll know for sure later. Nonethless, it was the military drama's best performance in the 18-49 demo since Nov. 6, 2007. (Thanks, Papa Walton! And g'night, John-Boy!) House inched up 160K, to 12.82 mil, followed by Biggest Loser (which averaged a typical 7.45 mil). 9 pm The Mentalist again bested Dancing with the Stars' results show, 14.86 mil to 14.37 mil. Fringe (9.53 mil) placed third, dropping 500K from its last outing, but topped the hour in demos. 10 pm Without a Trace toppled some 13 percent yet still led the pack with 10.99 million viewers. SVU was No. 1 in demos, but slipped 800 thou to 9.4 mil. ABC's Eli Stone was welcomed back by an audience of 8.82 mil, a 44 percent increase over its Season 1 finale.

Question: What's been the highlight and lowlight of upfront week so far? Answer: The renewals of Old Christine, Eli Stone and How I Met Your Mother definitely qualify as highlights. And the lowlight? Hmmmmm… probably me getting a, um, stern talking-to at the NBC upfront Experience soiree by an actor for the somewhat harsh things I've written about him/her over the years. Not fun at all. ABC plans to go ahead and air Eli Stone, despite the medical community's passionate protest of a plotline in Thursday's premiere episode that draws a link between vaccination and autism. As the controversial storyline goes, lawyer Eli Stone (played by Jonny Lee Miller) argues that a mercury-based preservative in a pharmaceutical company's vaccine caused a child's autism. Dr. Renee R. Jenkins, the president of the American Academy of Pediatrics, tells the New York Times she worries that the implication "could lead to a tragic decline in immunization rates."In response, ABC said it would run a disclaimer stating: "The following story is fictional and does not portray any actual persons, companies, products or events." The network has inked a deal with the '80s pop icon turned courtroom staple to appear in two additional episodes of its buzzworthy midseason entry Eli Stone. The spiritually-\ tinged legal drama revolves around an attorney (played by Jonny Lee Miller) who, after a string of bizarre hallucinations, thinks he might be a prophet.
