Ted Cruz has a weird sense of The Simpsonspolitical ideology.

The senator decided to explain the divide between Democrats and Republicans by using America's longest running scripted series while speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington D.C. on Thursday.

"I think the Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge," Cruz told the crowd, according to reporters in attendance.

The Simpsons Is Thinking About Changing Apu

The Simpsons creator Al Jean saw tweets about Cruz's remarks and decided to call the senator out for misrepresenting the family's political ideals -- specifically those of baby Maggie. "Ted Cruz says Maggie Simpson would vote for him. I think Ted's the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth," the producer tweeted.

The Simpsons has always been politically savvy, never afraid to shake a stick at politicians or policies it disagrees with. The animated series also made headlines in 2016 for predicting a Donald Trump presidency over a decade and a half before it came to fruition.

Face it, Ted. Bart would have voted for Bernie Sanders if he remembered to vote at all.
