Netflix Is Developing a Live-Action TV Show Based on Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

Well this is rather fortunate news!

According to Deadline, Netflix has acquired the rights to the best-selling children's books A Series of Unfortunate Events, with the intention of adapting them as a live-action TV series. The online streaming service, which also recently ordered a live-action Richie Rich series, is producing the project with Paramount Television. 

"On the search for fantastic material that appeals to both parents and kids, the first stop for generations of readers is A Series Of Unfortunate Events," Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix, said in a statement. "The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny and relatable. We can't wait to bring it to life for Netflix members."

The books, which total 13 in all, are narrated by Lemony Snicket (the pen name of author Daniel Handler) and follow the adventures of orphans Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire as well as the villainous Count Olaf. Jim Carrey starred as Olaf in the 2004 movie based on the stories, also from Paramount.
