Legacies' Landon Will Make a Dangerous Attempt to Move On From Hope in Season 2

It's finally time to return to the world of Mystic Falls, but while you may have had a stellar summer break, not everyone at the Salvatore School can say the same. When Legacies returns for Season 2, there will be one person who's been struggling to make sense of a world without Hope (Danielle Rose Russell). Predictably, the person who seems to realize there's something (or someone) missing in his life is Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi).

Considering Hope was the love of his life, it's no surprise that Landon would feel her absence more than anyone else at school, but the complicated part is that he, of course, has no clue that's the reason he's been so lost over the summer. According to Shahghasemi, Landon will go through quite a lot in the premiere trying to solve that mystery.

"The person that he knows he's missing is Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith)," Shahghasemi revealed when TV Guide stopped by the set of Legacies. "So as far as he's concerned, the void [in his life] is Rafael. The depth of that void is what gives him so much trouble. So then it ends up becoming something where he goes to pretty extreme measures to try and figure out why exactly that void isn't being filled, and he goes to pretty extreme measure to figure out if Rafael is actually the answer."

Showrunner Julie Plec echoed this forecast, saying her favorite part of this storyline for Landon was the opportunity to put him into a world "where Hope Mikaelson wasn't the love of his life. That's what filled him up last year," Plec said. "He finally had a home, he had love, he had friends, he had a place to belong. So why, if he got it all, does he feel like he's missing something so profound? He's the one, I think, with the greatest toll on his heart as a result of Hope's absence. And watching the things he does to try to fill that hole, as you can see, some are dangerous and some are new and interesting. I'm enjoying watching his journey this season, as he moves on without realizing he even moving on from something."

The trailer for Season 2 included some worrying shots of Landon submerged in the school's lake and resurfacing from the fiery water, which seems to indicate he might have drowned and resurrected underwater. We'd definitely classify that as dangerous behavior.

As for Plec's tease about his more "interesting" ways of moving on, we can't help but think that has something to do with his new bond with Josie (Kaylee Bryant). We've already speculated that a new romance will be brewing between these two crazy kids while they're both stranded at school over the summer, and finding someone new to make out with is definitely a better alternative than drowning. Even if it will totally wreck his relationship with Hope if and when she returns.

Legacies Season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c on The CW.
