Is it really Mystic Falls if there isn't a major love triangle in the works? The new season of Legacies is just around the corner, and it looks like we're gearing up to explore the most unexpected of triangles when the show returns for Season 2.
As you'll recall, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) heroically sacrificed herself to destroy Malivore in the Season 1 finale, but that came with a massive consequence: No one can remember that she exists. That means all her friends at the Salvatore School are blissfully unaware that she's no longer around, and for all intents and purposes, her boyfriend, Landon (Aria Shahghasemi), is single and ready to mingle. That's probably why he spent all summer hanging out with Josie (Kaylee Bryant), and without memories of his love for Hope to keep him from getting busy, he might just find himself in a new relationship with the more introverted Saltzman twin.
"Landon and Josie are the last two that have stayed behind at the Salvatore School over the summer," Kaylee Bryant told TV Guide during a recent visit to the show's set. "This is the first time that they've had absolutely nothing to do — no monsters, no sister, no problems, just the two of them. So you kind of get to see them interact."
"Whether or not it becomes romantic, I think, is a question of timing," Shahghasemi added.
The timing does kind of make sense when you think about it. Alone during summer vacation? Two introverts who share a love of music and self-sacrifice? Sounds like the perfect recipe for a relationship that normally would never have had a chance to blossom.
Unfortunately, if these two do end up falling for one another, they're going to be in quite the pickle if and when Hope does find her way back from wherever that Malivore swan dive took her.
"I can't imagine that Hope would react to Landon and Josie well at all," said Danielle Rose Russell. "She still loves him, and it's not like she's forgotten anyone, you know. It's the opposite... It's kind of been interesting because with Hope going into Malivore, it's allowed us to do different things with the show, and kind of giving us an actual, valid reason to do that. So I think that it's interesting to have explored different love dynamics and different relationship dynamics this season, but yeah, it's kind of very heartbreaking to see."
Legacies Season 2 premieres Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c on The CW.
