Legacies Boss Compares Hope and Clarke to The Vampire Diaries' Damon and Bonnie

Though we can't say for sure what happened to Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) in the Legacies Season 1 finale, we do know that she'll be on the show in Season 2, so it's safe to say she's not lost to us forever. Unfortunately, wherever she is, it doesn't sound like she'll be having a ball of a time there when Season 2 picks up.

"The mystery of where [Hope] is and what happened is actually the way we begin the first episode," showrunner Julie Plec recently told TV Guide at the ATX Television Festival. "Within the first few minutes, we'll see what's become of her. I think it's going to be fun to watch her first realize that she's not dead and, two, realize how she's going to get herself out of this mess that she's made."

Luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you spin it), Hope won't be stuck in this mess alone.

Before she dove into the Malivore pit, Hope performed a mimic spell that forced Ryan Clarke (Nick Fink), Landon's (Aria Shahghasemi) brother and Malivore's other son, to jump into the pit with her. That means wherever that pit sent her, it also sent him, and they're each probably the last person either of them would want to be trapped in another dimension with.

Though they might hate to be stuck together, this is definitely the kind of situation fans go gaga for, and it may bring back some memories of days gone by forThe Vampire Diaries fans.

"One of our favorite stories from Vampire Diaries was when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Bonnie (Katerina Graham) got stuck in the prison world together," Plec said. "We love sticking people together who do not want to be together, and in this case Hope and Clarke are with each other and none too happy about it. ... I think when you're stuck with someone -- we call it the 'trapped in the elevator' pitch -- the end result of that is always going to either be you have a new and very important understanding of who that person is and maybe have been able to find your way to common ground and to bond, or you just really hate them even more than you hated them to begin with. So you'll have to tune in to find out what their future is."

It's hard to decide whether it would be more amusing to watch Hope and Clarke's simmering distaste for each other turn into full-out hatred or to see a reluctant friendship form. Either way, it will make for some damn good TV!

Legacies returns Thursday, Oct. 10 at 9/8c on The CW.
