Emmys: TVGuide.com's Picks for Supporting Actress in a Comedy

It's that time of the year again: Emmy season! Over the next two weeks, Emmy voters will be checking off names and shows they think are worthy of getting a nomination come July 14. We here at TVGuide.com have a few picks in mind ourselves. First up: our dream ballot for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy:

Look back at last year's Emmys

Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang TheoryNot that The Big Bang Theory was showing its age, but the addition and promotion of Bialik to series regular has infused the comedy with new life. As Amy, Sheldon's female equivalent — a girl and a friend, but not a girlfriend — Bialik not only gives Sheldon a true partner in crime (remember when they tried to spread rumors?), but has also created a gang-within-the-gang with the show's other gals, Penny and Bernadette.Julie Bowen, Modern FamilyIt's not easy playing the straight man among outlandish characters, but Bowen, who was nominated last year, fires one-line barbs that always manage to pack a punch while keeping everyone else in line. Just watch the Halloween episode. We haven't loved a high-strung chick more since Monica Geller. Alison Brie, Community Brie already won us over on Mad Men before she debuted as the adorable and tightly wound moral compass of Greendale two years ago — a character that could have remained one-note. But thanks to Brie's measured range, Annie has evolved into a hilarious, though still naïve, butt-kicking Ace of Hearts. Look no further than this.

Jane Lynch to host Emmys

Jane Lynch, GleeThough the show's sophomore season was uneven, Lynch, the reigning Emmy champ and this year's host, remains as consistently brilliant and devilish as ever in her exploits to take down New Directions. But she also revealed a new layer to Laurie this year with extra sweet quality time with Travis that still made us — all together now — laugh.Aubrey Plaza, Parks and RecreationNo one does deadpan better than Plaza, who got to shine even more this year through April's delectable relationship with and hasty wedding to Andy.
