It Looks Like Alexander Skarsgard Really Is Returning for Big Little Lies Season 2

How is this even possible?

Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) met a pretty definitive end in the first season ofHBO's Big Little Lies... or did he?

TVLine reports that Skarsgard is "expected to return in some capacity" for Season 2. The freshmen season of the HBO drama, which was initially conceived of as limited series, revolved around the death of an unknown character who turned out to be Skarsgard's Perry.

It's possible that Skarsgard's return means that Perry isn't actually dead, something seemingly supported by the actor's recent remarks at the Golden Globes. "I don't even know if I'm really dead or not," Skarsgard teased at the time. However, it seems more logical that Perry will return in flashbacks, particularly if his wife Celeste (Nicole Kidman) continues to reflect on their troubled marriage in her therapy sessions.

Skarsgard won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for his portrayal of Celeste's abusive husband in the acclaimed HBO show. The network declined to comment on his reported return.

HBO Defends Calling Big Little Lies a Limited Series Amid Awards Backlash

HBO has said that the majority of the main cast from Season 1 will return for the next installment, so in addition to Skarsgard you can likely expect Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, Laura Dern and Zoe Kravitz to reprise their roles as well. There is a slight chance they might need to recast Ziggy, however. But how funny would it be if Witherspoon rearranged her life to make room for the HBO series, but Iain Armitage was too busy with Young Sheldon to come back for Season 2?

Big Little Lies Season 2 is coming in 2019.
