Women in War Reviews

Janis is the head of a nursing unit in this standard programmer which is one of the earliest to use the U.S. involvement in the war as a backdrop. Barrie is a nurse who is pulled from her high-society lifestyle, put through a demanding training period and eventually risks danger helping soldiers during a bombing raid. The usual romance has Barrie falling for air corps lieutenant Knowles, which gives the audience and the characters a break from daily duties. The film marked a brief return to the screen for silent star Janis, the "Sweetheart of the AEF" in WW I. The film's special effects were nominated for an Oscar.
