Cavalry sergeant Rusty Curtis (Tom Neal) is released from the Army at the same time that his beloved horse is sold to society woman Sally Crandall (Adele Mara) to run in steeplechases. Rusty is initially hired to train the horse but is able to stop some gamblers who want the steed kept out of an important race. When the regular jockey can't ride, Rusty takes over, winning both the race and Sally's affections.
