The Strange Door Reviews

Laughton stars in this weak horror film as a man who seeks revenge on his brother for marrying Laughton's childhood sweetheart. Laughton imprisons his brother, Cavanagh, and convinces Cavanagh's grown daughter that her father is dead. He plans to make the girl's life miserable (the mother, Laughton's love, died years ago in childbirth) by marrying her off to a hard-drinking swine, Stapley. His plans go awry and everyone ends up in the dungeon. As Laughton is about to crush the whole clan with movable cell walls, Karloff comes to their aid and releases them before they are flattened. Laughton and Karloff both seem to be competing to see who can be the hammiest in this low-budget, derivative horror film.
