This gripping adventure tale has Finch as an Italian explorer who has been rescued at the expense of his men. Years later, his guilt catches up with him as he begins recalling the events that led to his rescue. The northern climate provides the existential atmosphere appropriate to the material, and the score by Morricone underlines these conditions. This costly Italian-Russian coproduction proved a box office failure.
