The Mystery of Mr. X Reviews

Mudie plays a maniacal killer released from prison after serving 15 years. He begins killing one policeman for each year spent in prison, baffling Scotland Yard. Montgomery is a jewel thief who becomes the chief suspect. In order to save himself, Montgomery goes after the killer and stops Mudie. This is a well-crafted thriller, sparsely written and to the point. The direction makes the most of the London setting, creating suspense through the use of a foggy atmosphere. Well paced, with believable performances. The romance between Montgomery and Allan (as the daughter of the head of Scotland Yard) is out of place, but it never detracts from the plot.
