The Las Vegas Story Reviews

This routine drama meant to be a thriller features Price and Russell as a married couple on a trip to Las Vegas, where she runs into her ex-flame, Mature. Price proceeds to lose heavily at the dice tables, losing Russell at the same time. Meanwhile, he reveals himself to be an embezzler. Mature plays the righteous sheriff who gets Price out of a jam, even though Price is married to the woman Mature loves. Upon the release of this picture, Howard Hughes refused to give Paul Jarrico credit for his contribution to the script because of his alleged communist sympathies. This led to a lengthy legal battle, as well as to hostilities between the Screenwriters Guild and Hughes. Performances in this picture are for the most part lifeless, mainly due to the ill-scripted dialog and poorly motivated situations.
