Super Sleuth Reviews

This clever and original comedy features Oakie as a movie detective who takes his onscreen persona too seriously. He decides that his make-believe profession is the real career for him and takes up sleuthing in Los Angeles. The egotistical star finds himself in hot water when he takes on a blackmail/murder case that's been baffling the cops. Unwittingly Oakie hires Ciannelli to help him, not realizing that he is the very man he's after. Oakie is marvelous in the role, with some fine comic moments. The support from Sothern, as the studio publicist trying to retrieve the fantasy-minded star, is equally good. The film is blessed with a clever script and fine direction, which deftly handles both the comic and suspense elements. Filmed before as GENIUS AT WORK.
