Strictly Unconventional Reviews

A low budget and limited sets did not help the sound version of Somerset Maugham's "The Circle." It tells the story of Owen, who is married to Davis, a hard-working and straitlaced man, but falls for a Canadian visitor. Davis' mother, whom he hasn't seen in 30 years because she took off with her lover, comes to his house and crosses paths with her one-time husband, Davis' father. Upon learning of Owen's intentions, Skipworth points out her own mistakes and warns her not to do it. Davis is told by his father to romance his wife and put some spark back into his love life. This appeases Owen for a while, but the rough Canadian and his lifestyle appeal to her even more, so she eventually takes off with her lover.
