Smokey and the Bandit Part 3 Reviews

A reprehensible ripoff, this third in the "Smokey and the Bandit" series doesn't even boast the dubious talents of Burt Reynolds or director Hal Needham. Reynolds, who appears only in a cameo, must have finally realized the effect these moronic car-chase movies had on his career and bowed out of this one. Once again, Big Enos and Little Enos (Pat McCormick and Paul Williams) hire Cletus (Jerry Reed) to haul an item at high speed across the nation's highways. This time, it's an imitation of the shark from JAWS that the brothers want to install at their new seafood restaurant. Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) and his moronic son (Mike Henry) are in hot pursuit. This film doesn't even have the basic narrative coherence of the first two, and it rambles about aimlessly with little humor or action. This is commercial filmmaking at its very worst.
