Arriving at the Spinach Theater to star in a musical version of "Romeo and Juliet", that eminent tragedian Bluto discovers that he has been fired and Popeye has been hired in his place. For the rest of the cartoon, Bluto does everything in his power to sabotage the performance, as "Romeo" Popeye and "Juliet" Olive Oyl bravely soldier on. Ultimately, Popeye dons female drag and chews his spinach to ring down the curtain on Bluto permanently.
