San Antonio Rose Reviews

The flimsy story for this film involves the goings-on between two rival roadhouses. Actually this was little more than an excuse to pack nine songs into a little over an hour. Universal was known at this time for taking a hit song and giving it the thinnest of plots in order to create, it was hoped, a hit movie. The results here are pretty much what one would expect: long on musical delights and short on anything else. Songs: title tune (Bob Willis, sung by The Merry Macs), "Hi Neighbor" (Jack Owens), "The Hut Sut Song" (Leo Killion, Ted McMichael, sung by The Merry Macs), "Once Upon a Summertime" (Jack Brooks, Norman Berens), "Mexican Jumping Bean" (Don Raye, Gene De Paul, sung by The Merry Macs), "You've Got What it Takes" (Raye, De Paul), "You're Everything Wonderful," "Bugle Woogie Boy" (Henry Russell), "Sweep It" (Frank Skinner).
