A combination of musical and mystery starring McLaglen as a detective investigating killings perpetrated backstage during opening night of a new show. When the body of private eye Patrick is discovered on the catwalk, McLaglen must work fast (between musical numbers, that is) to find the killer. Out-of-favor star Michael is the next to go (via a falling sandbag) and it soon becomes apparent that the leading lady, Carlisle, is marked for death. The eventual solution to the killings is contrived and weak. Ann Sheridan, who became the "Oomph Girl," appears in a bit part, billed under her real name, Clara Lou Sheridan. Songs include: "Marijuana" (now there's a popular oldie!), "Lovely One," "Where Do They Come from Now," "Live and Love Tonight," "Cocktails for Two" (Arthur Johnson, Sam Coslow), "Ebony Rhapsody" (Johnson, Coslow, performed by Duke Ellington and His Orchestra).
