Mr. Moto Takes a Chance Reviews

A disappointing effort in the series of "Mr. Moto" thrillers, mainly because of the attempt to put too much into too short a time slot, without generating the type of suspense common to the earlier pictures. In this one Lorre poses as an archaeologist in Southeast Asia but is actually interested in a nearby province where a fanatical priest, Regas, is planning to rid the entire area of its white population. Lorre, aided by agent Hudson and legitimate ruler Bromberg, disguises himself as an ancient guru and sneaks into the cave where the ammunition is hidden. He then uses it against Regas and his forces. Many of the performances seem forced, as does the plot, which is further marred by studio settings that look anything but realistic. But Lorre still manages to give an intriguing performance.
