Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie Reviews

This big-screen incarnation of the TV kids' adventure show that spawned a marketing empire is no better than it should be, but it's lively enough to fulfill its primary mission -- which is, of course, to sell more toys. As expected, the multicultural crew of teen superheroes does battle with regular nemeses Lord Zedd and Rita Repulsa, now abetted by arch-nasty Ivan Ooze (Paul Freeman). It's reasonably diverting, but we miss the cheerful absurdities of the TV series, especially the weird dissonances created by matching cheesy Japanese children's programming with American kiddie schlock.
