Martin Sheen stars as Bob Beckwith, a happily married man whose family life is disrupted by the news that he has an illegitimate son. When Beckwith's former lover Nicole (Nathalie Nell) dies, the son is sent to live with Beckwith and his family. The strain of having to adapt to the intruder leads to a lot of histrionic sobbing among the formerly happy family. Sheen and Blythe Danner, who plays his wife, manage to deliver competent performances in roles which are less than believable.
