Mademoiselle Fifi Reviews

Disappointing Val Lewton production directed by Robert Wise and starring Simon as a brave French laundress who refuses to give in to her small town's Prussian oppressors, circa 1870. The title refers to the nickname given Prussian officer Kreuger, who proves to be the most brutal of the town's tormentors. Most of the action takes place on a claustrophobic stagecoach which carries a group of turncoat aristocrats to safety in England. There Simon, one of the passengers, takes her patriotic stand. The whole thing is a less-than-successful allegory for the horrors taking place in Europe during WW II.
