Lisbon Reviews

O'Hara is the wife of a rich man held behind the Iron Curtain. She can get his money only after he returns, dead. She talks to Rains, a killer for hire, who agrees to carry out her plan to kill her husband. Rains hires Milland, an unassuming boat captain, to ferry him and O'Hara under the pretense of rescuing the man from the communists. But in a moment of passion, she tells Milland the real story and he is appalled. He ruins their plans and takes off with Furneaux, one of Rains's many girl friends. Some interesting moments, though Milland's direction is lacking the punch the film needs. His performance helps, however. Rains is good as the mercenary, though there is a particularly cruel and unnecessary scene where he smashes a bird with a tennis racket. The film has a nice look to it, with good location photography.
